About

I am a Professor in the Psychology department at Arizona State University and direct the Lifespan Development Lab. I earned my PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University in 2012. Prior to joining Arizona State University in 2013, I completed a one-year postdoct at Humboldt University of Berlin and the German Institute for Economic Research.

My research primarily focuses on understanding how individuals navigate challenges and adapt to adversity across the lifespan, with a particular emphasis on midlife. I am deeply interested in examining the factors that contribute to both vulnerability and resilience during this critical stage of life.

My research utilizes quantitative methods to explore a variety of topics including loneliness, mental health, physical health, sensory functioning, and the impact of adversity. I often take a cross-national and historical perspective in my work, seeking to understand how societal changes and cultural contexts influence these processes. As you can see from my recent publications, I have been actively investigating these topics, and I am excited to continue pushing the boundaries of our understanding in the years to come.
